This month’s video features the Lincoln Heights neighborhood. Did you know that Lincoln Heights saw rapid development in the late 1880s and early 1890s? And in 1908 the Olmsted Brothers recommended establishing a large park in the north of the neighborhood.
In 1912, the Hutton family, philanthropists and landowners in the neighborhood, donated 31 acres of land that became Lincoln Park. The Hutton family would build their colonial revival mansion residence next to the park in 1914, at a cost of $45,000 or $1,300,990.50 in 2022 dollars.
Well, if you didn’t know, now you know!
Here’s news you can use.
It’s still snow season! Remember to park on the odd side of the street!
Winter food and yard waste collection is the first FULL week February. So put those green carts out on your regular pickup day.
The Numerica Skate Ribbon has a great Valentine’s Day Ice Skating Special on Friday, Feb. 14. $14 covers admission and skate rentals for two – that’s over a 50% savings!
Are you wanting to become more involved in your neighborhoods? Consider attending the Parliamentary Procedure Basics, the first of three workshops in the Spring Learning Series, held on Saturday, Feb. 15. Or attend a neighborhood council meeting. Ask to be part of a committee, traffic, clean-up, special event or block party, whatever is your passion.
