Over 300 community members provided insightful feedback for the City of Spokane’s future vision!
The ongoing PlanSpokane 2046 Periodic Update is the first substantial update to the Comprehensive Plan since 2001, providing the City of Spokane the opportunity to reevaluate the vision of this important document. The vision sets the stage for the future that the Comprehensive Plan’s policies and goals work towards. The City of Spokane provided opportunities for the community to be engaged in the process of identifying that future vision for Spokane’s next 20 years.
Feedback received during the Vision Board, Community Visioning Workshop Series, Community Visioning Survey, and Spring Market Visioning are documented in the Visioning Community Engagement Summary and will help inform future work towards the PlanSpokane 2046 update to the Comprehensive Plan.
Throughout the engagement, common themes about what community members want for the City of Spokane’s future arose.
Community members want to maintain access to nature, promote sustainability and environmental stewardship, and benefit from a healthy and clean city.
Community members want a welcoming and diverse Spokane that is accessible, family-friendly, connected, human-centered, and safe for all residents.
Community members want good jobs and new industries, a culture and arts economy, and a cutting-edge city that supports reuse of existing buildings.
Community members want an affordable and attractive city that is walkable and bike-friendly, with neighborhood services available to all residents.
You can learn more about what the community told us in the Visioning Community Engagement Summary.
Feedback will inform the next steps of the PlanSpokane 2046 effort. Based on the identified vision, potential “hows” of meeting that vision will be identified. Community members can expect more opportunities to support the direction of the City of Spokane’s future later this year, as the preferred path forward is considered.
