On Friday May 23rd, 2025, Spokane Police Chief Kevin Hall presented the Medal of Valor to four officers for their extraordinary bravery displayed in the early hours of February 12th, 2024. On that cold February morning, 911 received information that a woman had been shot in a North Spokane home. The suspect was still inside the residence, armed with a handgun. The information being relayed to 911 was coming from the victim's son, hiding upstairs.
Officers converged on the home and due to the injured female inside unable to leave, quickly developed a plan to rescue her as well as her son hiding upstairs. After safely evacuating the male, officers entered the home to rescue the injured woman.
At great risk to themselves, these four officers entered the residence and quickly encountered the suspect who began firing at them. The officers returned fire, neutralizing the armed suspect and rescued the injured female. The victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital. The brave actions of these officers no doubt saved a life that morning. The Medal of Valor is the highest recognition of achievement presented by the Spokane Police Department. In what became a hostage rescue, they placed their own lives on the line to save others. It is with great pride that SPD has awarded the Medal of Valor to the following four officers:
