Happy Customer Service Week! The first full week of October, we recognize the customer service professionals who help keep the City of Spokane running smoothly.
When you think of customer service in Spokane, the wonderful Spokane 311 team likely comes to mind. The 311 team is available to answer your questions on a variety of topics, from garbage collection to pothole reporting to code enforcement complaints. Spokane 311 is your first point of contact for any City of Spokane questions and concerns. Thank you, Spokane 311 team!
The City of Spokane also employs professionals in non-traditional customer service roles. This week, we would like to highlight some of our Public Works Department customer service professionals.
We extend our gratitude to the employees of the Solid Waste Department, including our drivers who provide “pack out” services for individuals with disabilities and the Scalehouse Attendants who warmly greet every customer. The Waste to Energy Facility serves between 200 and 600 customers in person every day, providing safe and knowledgeable service. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, as reflected in some outstanding customer reviews!

We went to the waste to energy plant today to dump some garbage from a remodel project and always have good experience, service is always top notch.
Our Utility Billing team provides excellent customer service to our 86,000 residential and business customers. They address issues related to financial hardship, manage accounts for new construction linked to permit activity, and handle move in/move out processes. They also research and resolve usage and billing disputes while facilitating communication between customers and our Public Works teams in the field. We cannot thank our Utility Billing team enough for their hard work and dedication.
The Street Department is responsible for maintaining 2,100 lane miles and over 1,500 traffic signals. Our Radio Operators work around the clock to provide instant information and responses to issues such as downed stop signs and malfunctioning traffic signals. Additionally, our foremen and supervisors diligently respond to community feedback and questions. Thank you for all your hard work!
We want to recognize the customer service professionals working in the Water, Sewer, and Wastewater Departments. While their work often goes unnoticed when services are functioning well, they respond with urgency, safety, and professionalism when issues arise. These foremen, service specialists, inspectors, laborers, and radio operators help us maintain over 1,200 miles of sewer and stormwater pipes, along with 1,100 miles of water pipes servicing Here are some customer reviews showcasing these amazing employees.
Customer called and wanted to let us know about Matt. He stated he was super personable, explained everything he was doing, was very good about cleaning up any drops of water, and when he did the outside work, he was sure not to damage anything in the garden area and cleaned up like he was never there. Customer is very happy with Matt and the service he provided.
Customer gave Quentin and Jake kudos for a job well done. He was impressed with their problem-solving skills, professionalism and going above and beyond to make the customer happy.
When you think of community growth and economic development, the Development Services Center (DSC) plays a central role in turning ideas into reality. This team of professionals offers expert guidance and excellent customer service to help residents, contractors, and developers bring their projects to life. Each year, this team processes over 30,000 applications, reviews more than 2,700 plan sets, and handles 519 Land Use actions. Over the past four years, these efforts have led to the issuance of 4,896 new homes, supporting Spokane's safe and sustainable growth. Thank you, to our DSC team.
