Traffic Operations

The Traffic Operations Division conducts traffic investigations, surveillance, design, and programming for improvements to the existing city traffic system. The Traffic Operations Division also performs signal system analysis and programming for the efficient operation of the City's signal network.

Three trained technicians and a Traffic Operations Engineer perform a variety of tasks including AutoCAD design, plan review, and citizen requests.

Traffic Operations manages an annual traffic monitoring program, collecting traffic flow volumes throughout the City.

This section operates and maintains their own counting equipment. They are also in a position to support other City departments and Government agencies by doing traffic counts and vehicle type, or classification, counts, on request.

Traffic Operations responds to an average of over 700 citizen requests for traffic services every year and hundreds more from other agencies or City departments.

The Traffic Operations team has over 70 years of collective experience and service to the City of Spokane and performs plan review, citizen requests, traffic signal management, data collection and policy/administration services.
