At 12:47 hours, on Wednesday January 15, 2020, units from the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) were dispatched to a structure fire at 2724 E. 16th.

Multiple calls reporting the fire were received by SFD dispatchers. First arriving SFD crews were on scene within 5 minutes of dispatch despite the snow and ice covered streets.

SFD companies arrived to find fire with 20-foot flame lengths from the back side of a single family home. The fire had progressed to multiple rooms within the home as well as to the attic space. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes while simultaneously ventilating and searching for possible victims.

The structure ultimately sustained fire and heavy smoke damage throughout the structure. Crews remained on scene for several hours to search for any hidden fire and ensure complete extinguishment. There was no one home at the time of the fire and there were no reported injuries to firefighters.

The SFD Special Investigation Unit (SIU) is working to determine the cause of the fire and at the time of this release. The nature of the fire is listed as undetermined. The total value off the structure is estimated at $225,000 with estimated damage to the structure and contents of $100,000.
