At 4:23 AM early this morning, the Spokane Fire Department was dispatched to 1317 North Wall Street to a report of heavy smoke coming from the basement of the residence. The 911 caller indicated that people appeared to be evacuating from the home and the fire was growing.
The first company arrived within five minutes and was met by several residents that were unsure if all of the occupants were accounted for. They immediately began to stretch hoselines into the basement fire and other companies went into the building to search the structure for occupants in heavy smoke conditions. The fire was controlled in quick order and all seven residents were safe and accounted for.
The incident remains under investigation by the SFD's special investigation unit. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
