With deep sadness, the Spokane Fire Department announces the passing of Firefighter Josh Rhoads after a courageous five-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Firefighter Rhoads passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Josh joined the Spokane Fire Department in March 2017 and dedicated most of his career to Station 1 and 7. Known for his exceptional skills and dedication, Josh was a beloved colleague and friend who will be profoundly missed. His selfless willingness to help, no matter the task, had a lasting impact on everyone who worked alongside him. Whether on an emergency call or during day-to-day station duties, his team knew they could count on him. He embodied the spirit of teamwork that defines the fire service.

More than anything, Josh was a devoted family man. His face would light up to his colleagues whenever he talked about his wife and two children, who survive him at home.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at Summit Church, 1801 East 29th Avenue. Attendance is limited to family, friends, and fire service personnel, including members from outside agencies.

To support Josh’s family during this difficult time, donations can be made to the family’s GoFundMe page.
