As the effort to select Spokane’s next police chief continues, the citizen Police Leadership Advisory Committee (PLAC) is asking the public to get involved in the process. Three town hall forums will be held in December to gather input.

Dates and venues for the PLAC’s Town Hall forums are as follows:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 1: NE Community Center (12 p.m. to 2 p.m.)
  • Wednesday, Dec. 16: West Central Community Center (12 p.m. to 2 p.m.);East Central Community Center (5 p.m. to 7 p.m.)

The citizen Police Leadership Advisory Committee is tasked with leading a conversation about what the community is looking for in its next police chief and provide input about what a culture audit of the Spokane Police Division should consider.

The committee will be tasked with three primary objectives related to the police chief search:

  • Review and make suggestions to the current police chief job description
  • Identify the attributes the community is seeking in the next police chief
  • Recommend the hiring and selection process that should be used

Separately, the committee will also provide guidance on the development of a culture audit, a recommendation of both the Use of Force Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services. The committee will make recommendations about factors to be considered, approach, reporting and expected outcomes.
