Spokane City Council Member Mike Allen will be honored by current and former Council members and staff on Monday night as he attends his final meeting as District Two’s representative.
Allen was appointed to the City Council in 2007 when former District Two Council Member Mary Verner was elected Mayor in 2007. He sought election in 2009 and lost to current Council Member Jon Snyder. He was subsequently elected to Council in 2011.
“Mike’s work on such large projects as the Office of the Police Ombudsman will have a long-lasting impact in Spokane,” said Council President Ben Stuckart. “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Mike and am even prouder to call him a friend.”
“I look forward running into Mike Allen on the bus, even if his destination is no longer City Hall,” said Snyder. “It was a pleasure to work with him on a wide variety of issues and I always appreciated his effort on behalf of the City.”
Former Council Member Richard Rush added, “Council Member Allen was always a gentleman and pleasure to work with. It was his passion that led the City to adopt a citywide capital facilities plan. He was the genesis of the work that led to that achievement.”
Council Member Allen chose not to seek re-election. Lori Kinnear was elected in November and will take Allen’s place in January.
The reception will be held in the Chase Gallery at City Hall immediately following the Council Briefing Session and is open to the public.
