Due to popular demand and program funding being depleted as a result, the final day to request a disposal pass in 2023 through the City of Spokane will be on Friday, June 16.

Residents were notified when the program launched on March 1 that the passes will be available until funding runs out.

“We love to see that Spokane residents take pride in cleaning up their homes and yards and make Spokane the incredible city that it is,” said Office of Neighborhood Services Director Patrick Striker. “The downside is that the budget of $50,000 for this year has almost been used up.”

The passes, which cover up to $25 in tipping fees, are designed to help residents remove extra waste by distributing vouchers to the Waste-to-Energy Facility at 2900 S. Geiger Blvd. Passes can be requested by city residents once every 30 days. The program is a partnership between the Office of Neighborhood Services and Department of Solid Waste Collection.

A total of 241 tons of waste was disposed of under the program through the end of April. More than 2,000 disposal passes have been redeemed this year.

Community Programs Coordinator Amber Groe said that, in addition to the popularity of the passes, increased costs to run the program also contributed to the pending closure earlier than previous years.

Many neighborhoods are planning fall cleanups. Residents can get involved in their neighborhood council. The Neighborhood Clean-up Program supports the broader City of Spokane's actions to reduce property crime, beautify Spokane, and promote community resiliency.
