Council President Announces Candidate Interviews for the Vacant District 2 Seat

The recent election of Betsy Wilkerson to City Council President has created a vacancy on the city council, representing District 2, Position 2.

Applications for the vacant council seat were available from December 8, 2023, through January 5, 2024. There were 17 applications received by the January 5 deadline.

Council President Wilkerson has notified the following candidates that they have received an interview for the position by the entire city council during a publicly noticed Council meeting:

Katy Sheehan

Alex Gibilisco

Lili Navarrete

Shane Gronholz

Jamie Bartlett

In accordance with the Council Rules and Section 8 of the Charter, the Spokane City Council will conduct the interviews of these applicants for the vacant District 2, Position 2, at their regularly scheduled study session at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024.

The meeting will take place in the City Council Briefing Center, located on the lower level of City Hall (808 W Spokane Falls Blvd). This meeting will be open to the public and can be viewed via live stream on Spokane’s CityCable5 https://my.spokanecity.org/citycable5/live/  or via Spokane City Council’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/spokanecitycouncil. No public comment will be taken during the meeting.

Upon completion of the interviews, the City Council may hold an executive session to evaluate the qualifications for potential appointees to elective office, pursuant to RCW 42.30.110(1)(h) and Council Rule of Procedure 7.1.
