Final Construction Phase of Downtown Corridor Begins May 19th

Washington/Stevens grind and overlay work will complete two-year project.

Two projects will impact traffic in downtown Spokane and the East Central neighborhood beginning Monday, May 19th. Motorists are urged to plan ahead, allow for extra time, and watch for detours. Please slow down for everyone’s safety and make the extra effort to support businesses impacted by the necessary projects. Washington and Stevens corridor lane reductions in downtown Spokane

The final phase of the Washington St. and Stevens St. corridor improvements is a grind and overlay on both streets between Spokane Falls Blvd. and 3rd Ave. Work will start Monday morning, May 19th and is expected to be underway through July.

What to Expect:

  • Southbound Stevens St. work will start between Sprague Ave. and 1st Ave. Northbound Washington St. work will start between Main St. and 1st Ave.
  • Lane reductions will be in place on both Stevens St. and Washington St. throughout the project. Drivers should expect slower speeds and traffic delays.
  • Businesses will remain accessible; please make the extra effort to support those impacted.

Hartson Ave. closed between Freya St. and Havana St.

As part of a Safe Routes to Schools pedestrian improvement project near Frances Scott Elementary, Hartson Ave. will be closed beginning Monday morning, May 19th through Friday, May 23rd.

What to Expect:

  • Drivers will be detoured to 2nd Ave. and 3rd Ave. Freya St. and Havana St. will remain open to north and southbound traffic.
  • Local residential access on Hartson Ave. will be maintained.
