Mayor Lisa Brown and Spokane Police Chief Kevin Hall have asked the Office of the Police Ombuds (OPO) for an independent review of the actions taken by law enforcement during the events that transpired on the night of Wednesday, June 11.
In their request, the Mayor and Police Chief asked the OPO to review all relevant sections of the Spokane Police Department’s policy, any apparent or actual departures from policy, as well as command operations and decisions. Furthermore, the OPO is asked to review command level operations and decisions.
“Professionalism, integrity and compassion are the core tenets of the Spokane Police Department. Asking for an independent review is a way for our department to build trust with the community we serve. It also provides as an opportunity to practice continued learning and improvement, which we believe deeply in,” Police Chief Kevin Hall said.
“The people of Spokane have placed their trust in the OPO’s ability to be an independent voice of analysis and reason. Chief Hall and I share that trust and believe an independent review is a commonsense step to take during this important moment,” Mayor Lisa Brown said.
