Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has directed that all flags at City facilities be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department firefighter and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue firefighter killed in an ambush attack.

“Our hearts are with the community of Coeur d’Alene in the wake of this devastating tragedy,” Mayor Lisa Brown said. “The City of Spokane extends its deepest condolences to the families affected, and to the entire city as it grieves this unimaginable loss. We stand in solidarity with you as you mourn and heal.”

Two firefighters were killed, and one was injured when they responded to a brush fire on Canfield Mountain and were ambushed on June 29, 2025.
