The City of Spokane has allocated $7.5 million to fully fund or partially fund nine local affordable housing projects and programs.

Four funding sources were available for allocation in this latest funding round:

  • $5,000,000 – HEART Funds
  • $1,000,000 – 1406 Affordable Housing Development Funds
  • $999,098 – HOME Affordable Housing Development Funds
  • $500,000 – HOME-ARP TBRA Funds

These funds will increase and preserve affordable rental housing inventory, increase affordable homeownership inventory, and support vulnerable populations in locating and procuring housing.

Of the projects receiving funding, four will be new construction projects, accounting for 95 new units of mixed incoming housing. Sixty-three of those new units will serve households earning 60% Area Median Income (AMI) or less.

Two awards are allocated to rehabilitation projects that will preserve 50 units of affordable housing for households earning 50% AMI or less and add an additional 49 units serving households earning 80% AMI or less.

A new homeownership project will lead to 12 new single-family townhomes, six of which will be sold to households earning 80% AMI or less.

Two additional projects will serve vulnerable populations as described by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, serving 86 eligible households.

The projects receiving funding include:

  • $885,000 for Proclaim Liberty Bethany
  • $2,000,000 for Volunteers of America Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho
  • $1,599,098 for the Threshold Project
