W. Maxwell Ave. between N. Walnut St. and N. Elm St. will be CLOSED, Monday, Aug. 25th through Friday, September 19th for traffic signal upgrades as part of the Maxwell Pettet to Walnut Bike/Pedestrian project that is under construction.

This project enhances bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure along Maxwell Ave. from Pettet Drive to Walnut Street. Improvements include new sidewalks, bike lanes, and crosswalk enhancements to better connect the West Central Neighborhood with AM Cannon Park, the West Central Community Center, and the Centennial Trail.

Please slow down for everyone’s safety and make the extra effort to support businesses impacted by this necessary work. Current obstruction information impacting drivers in the City is available on our construction webpage.

What to Expect:

  • On Monday, Aug. 25th, W. Maxwell Ave. will be CLOSED in both directions between N. Elm St. and N. Walnut St.
  • Northbound Maple St. and southbound Ash St. will remain open at the intersections with Maxwell Ave. Expect lane reductions and slowdowns.
  • Ash St. will have reduced lanes between Spofford Ave. and Maxwell Ave.
  • Eastbound motorists on Pettet Dr. will be detoured at Belt St. to Indiana St.
  • Westbound motorists on W. Maxwell Ave. will be detoured at Monroe St. north to Northwest Blvd. or south to Boone Ave.
  • Pedestrians may experience sidewalk detours.
  • Local access will be maintained during non-working hours.

This project is funded by the Washington State Pedestrian/Bike Program, Arterial Street Fund, and Washington Climate Commitment Act (CCA). Information about the CCA is available on their website.
