Spokane City Council Hosts A Community Food Drive

The Spokane City Council and City Employees will host a community food drive and fundraiser to support two programs: Zilch and Bite2Go. Zilch is a program that collects food items for immediate distribution to communities through small food pantries and other similar providers. Bite2Go provides nutritious weekend food supplies to Spokane public school students in grades K-12.

“I am grateful for this work to address food insecurity. It’s about more than meals, it’s about dignity and stability,” said Council Member Paul Dillon. “This effort will help support student retention, long-term community health, and help everyone thrive.”

According to Bite2Go’s website, in our region, 1 in 5 children face the daily challenge of not having enough to eat. When children are hungry, it’s harder for them to focus and learn in school. Join us in ensuring no child in our community goes hungry by donating today.

“If attending a City Council meeting isn’t reason enough to visit City Hall, the opportunity to drop off needed items for our community should top that list,” said Council Member Michael Cathcart. “If Monday evening Council meetings aren’t an option – though highly encouraged – choose to come down and pay your utility bill in person this month at City Hall and bring a few pantry items for the collection boxes.”

The food drive will be held from October 15 to December 15, accepting non-perishable foods and monetary donations. Shelf-stable food can be dropped off at City Hall in designated drop boxes located on the first, third, and seventh floors, as well as in the Chase Gallery right outside of the Council Chambers. Financial contributions can be made to a secure QR Code going directly to Bite2Go at 2nd Harvest, and all donor information is secure and confidential.

For more information on the Bite2Go and Zilch programs, visit the 2nd Harvest website.

Monetary donations can be made by scanning the QR code with your smartphone on the City Hall Fundraiser Poster.
