Council Member Paul Dillon was recognized as a “We Train Washington Legislative Champion” for securing funding that creates new pathways to employment while promoting fair wages and sustainable jobs for workers in the grocery industry.
“I am honored to be recognized by We Train Washington and grateful for passionate advocates and workers that made this happen,” said Council Member Dillon. “At a time of consolidation and economic uncertainty, ensuring that our grocery workers earn a living wage is not just a matter of dignity and equity - it is essential for building stronger, healthier communities.”
In partnership with United Food Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) 3000 and Spokane Community College, We Train Washington created a proposal for the first pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship meatcutter program in Eastern Washington with support from the City of Spokane.
We Train Washington, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals by creating career opportunities in the grocery sector, has been at the forefront of this movement to build leadership and job skills across the state.
Through his leadership, Council Member Dillon has championed policies that ensure fair wages and sustainable employment for workers, such as the “Public Dollars for Public Benefit” ordinance that prioritized training, hiring, and creating a sustainable workforce for the community.
