City Closures Planned for the Holidays

The City of Spokane will have several closures related to the holidays. Spokane City Hall will be closed at noon on Wednesdays, Dec. 24 and 31, and all day on Thursday, Dec. 25, Friday, Dec. 26, and Thursday, Jan. 1, in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays.

Garbage and recycling for customers who have Thursday and Friday collection days will be a day late due to the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays. The Waste-to-Energy facility will be closed on Thursdays, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1, but open all other days from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year, Christmas tree pickup will be available from January 5 – 16.

City customers with clean green food and yard waste service are reminded they have pick-up the first full weeks of January and February. Green carts will be collected January 5 – 9 on your regularly scheduled garbage day; please have your carts to the curb by 6 a.m.

The Spokane City Council will not meet on Mondays, Dec. 22 and 29, and Jan. 5. Council meetings will resume on Monday, Jan. 12, with a 3:30 p.m. agenda review meeting and 6 p.m. legislative meeting. Meetings are shown live on CityCable 5, the City’s government-access cable station, and are streamed on Facebook and the City's website. Citizens who want to provide testimony on an item on the Council’s agenda can sign up online.

On-street parking meters and kiosks will not require payment on Thursdays, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1. However, please remember even when parking is free on holidays, all parking rules, including time limits, still apply. The Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services will be closed on Thursdays, Dec. 25 and Jan 1.

Spokane 311 employees will have reduced phone availability for customer service inquiries on Wednesdays, Dec. 24, and Dec. 31 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and in person from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 26, employees will be available by phone and online during regular hours, 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Spokane 311 employees will not be available on Thursdays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. The public can still access Spokane311.org 24 hours a day, and messages will be responded to the next business day.

The Development Services Center (DSC) will be available by phone and online only from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, Dec. 24 and 31. The DSC will be open Friday, Dec. 26, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. but only by phone and online. They will not be available on Thursdays, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

All Spokane Public Library locations will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 25, for the Christmas holiday, and on Thursday, Jan. 1, for the New Year’s Day holiday. The library will close at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 31.
