Crews from the City of Spokane’s Code Enforcement Department, along with members of the Downtown Spokane Partnership Clean Team, will spend Tuesday cleaning up paint that was thrown on the statue of Abraham Lincoln in downtown Spokane.
Upon receiving reports of the vandalism, members of the Code Enforcement team quickly responded to assess the damage.
The statue, which sits at the corner of Monroe and Main, is a veterans memorial that was unveiled on Veteran’s Day in 1930. It is believed to be the only major statue of Lincoln that depicts him in his commander’s uniform.
The Spokane Police Department is now investigating and asking anyone with information about the vandalism to contact Crime Check at 509.456.2233.
