Mayor David Condon, Council President Ben Stuckart, & Police Chief Craig Meidl put out the following statement in response to community fears around the national political dialogue about bias-policing practices:

“National political rhetoric has no bearing on the City of Spokane’s commitment to ensuring all of our residents feel safe, welcomed, and valued.

The City of Spokane and Spokane Police Department has a longstanding policy of not engaging in bias-policing tactics that unfairly target and profile people based on their religion, race, national origin, color, creed, age, citizenship status, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, socio-economic status, or housing status. We stand by this policy and will vigorously defend it and investigate any hate/bias crime perpetrated on any of our community members. This policy and our commitment to the people who call Spokane home will not change.”
