Spokane Mayor David Condon is releasing the following statement in regard to a change in Water Quality Standards made by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today:

“The City of Spokane remains committed to protecting water quality in the Spokane River, and our citizens are making a generational investment in river health. The City was not informed or consulted about the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision today to approve the Water Quality Standards proposed by the Washington state Department of Ecology back in 2016. However, we have long been concerned that the 7 ppq standard for PCBs included in EPA’s November 2016 Water Quality Standards is not achievable by any known technology and can’t accurately be measured, leaving our citizens with an unknown financial risk.”
