A federal judge modified the temporary restraining order today to allow the City and County to follow its standard nuisance and abatement processes to address the camp on Washington State Department of Transportation property. Thirty neighbors and businesses filed declarations in the case describing the devastating impact to the neighborhood and their business. Mayor Nadine Woodward issued the following statement following the ruling:

“This action clears the way for the City to follow the standard nuisance process through Superior Court, which requires judicial review before action is taken. As with any neighborhood concern, we will continue our ongoing attempts to work with the property owner on a plan to remedy the situation before seeking court action. Our immediate next step will be to work with the state to finish getting individuals inside and out of the elements and restore the neighborhood that has been impacted. We understand the urgency to meet both interests.”
