Leaf pickup begins in Spokane

Updated at 12:10 p.m. on November 18, 2015

City crews have started clearing leaves from Spokane's streets. Regularly scheduled leaf pickup got underway Nov. 16.

Make sure you know when leaf pickup crews are coming to your neighborhood. Cars on streets scheduled for leaf removal should be moved off of those streets so crews can clear as many leaves as possible. This week, cars parked on streets scheduled for leaf removal will need to be moved off those streets during the hours of 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Beginning Sunday, Nov. 22, crews will be working seven days a week. Cars parked on the street will need to be moved during the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Pickup times for various locations and neighborhoods can be found on SpokaneCity.org's Leaf Pickup page. In addition, people can call the Leaf Hotline (509.625.7737) for information on the next day's work areas.

Remember not to rake leaves onto the street. Leaves that fall into a yard are the property owners' responsibility. City crews remove only the leaves that fall naturally into the streets.

Here are some options for leaves that have fallen into your yard:

  • Leaves placed in the green yard waste carts will be collected until Dec. 18
  • Leaves can also be taken to the waste-to-energy facility or a solid waste transfer station
  • Compost them
