As we work to revitalize downtown Spokane this includes our alleyways. The City of Spokane and the Mayor’s Office have launched the Innovation Alleyways project to transform alleyways into places of connectivity and vibrant arts culture.
Historically, alleyways have provided limited functions and primarily serve as an access area that lacks visibility to the general public. The Innovation Alleyways project will concentrate on transforming the use of alleyways to functional pedestrian spaces. This project is specifically focused on Railroad Alley and the Steam Plant Alley which runs parallel to the railroad viaduct.
If you have ideas on how to transform these alleyways we would love to hear from you. Join us for a workshop with local urban designers, landscape architects, architects and artists to explore ways to enliven downtown alleyways. The workshop is open to drop in both days, so please stop by to join the action! There will be a fun panel discussion Saturday afternoon from 3 – 5 p.m. with members of the City’s Design Review Board.
