New Waste Reduction Podcast Series

Waste reduction is the cool thing to do, at least according to Anna Belinski, Project Coordinator for Resource Synergy in Spokane.

The City of Spokane Solid Waste Department has launched a new waste reduction podcast series, Talking Trash, and Ms. Belinski is the subject of the first episode, talking about her experiences with zero waste living.

Ms. Belinski describes an Environmental Studies course at Gonzaga University her freshman year, which required her to pick a new environmentally-conscious behavior to implement for a project--and she chose to go zero waste. The behavior stuck after the course ended...and 4 years later, she is still committed to a zero waste lifestyle (as much as the pandemic can allow). “Once you become aware and your new habits become your regular habits, you can't go back,”...Ms. Belinski states.

She talks about her experiences getting started, how living a zero waste lifestyle has allowed her to live with her values aligned with what her actions, and offers resources and tips for others looking to go zero waste or at least reduce their waste generation. It is an inspiring 53-minute conversation, and look forward to more where this came from!

The City will feature interviews with other inspiring waste reduction advocates as the series progresses. Stay tuned! To listen to the podcast and check out other waste reduction information, go to our Solid Waste webpage. Contact: Gina Claeys at 509.625.6872 or gclaeys@spokanecity.org.
