Pig Out in the Park Returns After 2-Year Hiatus

Pig Out in the Park is back in a big way for its 41st run, just in time to celebrate the last hot days of summer. We took a walk around Riverfront Park to scope things out and find our personal favorites, but with 50 booths featuring 250 menu items, four 21+ beverage gardens, and 112 free concerts across four park stages, this year’s festival promises six full days of good eats and good tunes. Come down to Riverfront Park and explore for yourself!

The Food

In true Labor Day Weekend fashion, barbecue is all over the place. You’ll find meat roasting on the spit and all the BBQ classics, with plenty of sauces to choose from. Or, for a Mediterranean twist, go for gyro or kabob—and don’t skimp on the baklava.

It wouldn’t be a PNW summer without huckleberries, and you can enjoy them in a variety of forms: ice cream, milkshake, cobbler, italian soda, or this writer’s personal favorite, the huckleberry frozen lemonade from Best Buzz Coffee.

Looking for something Instagram worthy? Opt for a sushi burrito or visit Character Cotton Candy, where you can eat the cutest spun sugar treat you’ve ever seen (bear, bunny, mouse, pig or duck).

And of course, don’t forget the fair fare: elephant ears, funnel cakes, and anything you could possibly want deep fried. (We’re partial to the deep-fried Oreo.)

The Music

Since its inception in 1979, Pig Out in the Park has hired over 3,500 musical acts to entertain festival-goers. This year’s line-up features lots of local and regional talent, from solo acts to tribute bands, from big band to rock and roll, all for the low, low price of free.

The Fun

And of course, music isn’t the only entertainment on offer. Enjoy face painting, henna, magic tricks, and even free karate and jiu jitsu. Riverfront Park’s Splash Pads are open through September, so bring your swimsuit to beat the heat.
