This month’s video features the East Central neighborhood. Did you know that East Central is one of Spokane’s oldest neighborhoods? The neighborhood boasts one of the city’s oldest homes which was constructed in the late 1880s. East Central has four parks; two of the parks, Liberty and Underhill, are linked by the scenic Ben Burr Trail that runs along the basalt bluff helping to define the neighborhood.
Well, if you didn’t know, now you know!
Here’s some news you can use!
Snow season is here and it’s time to move those boats, RVs, and basketball hoops off the street. Make sure your shovels are out of storage, snow blower is working, and ice melt and sand are on hand. And don’t forget to park on the odd side of the street when a full City plow is announced.
Speaking of snow, the City is expanding capacity in existing programs to be cost-effective, draw upon local partner expertise, and prioritize partnerships with providers to ensure the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable residents during inclement weather. Check out the Inclement Weather Sheltering Plan and Housing Navigation Center.
If you’re looking for something fun to do this winter, get your skate on at the Numerica Skate Ribbon! DJ nights on Fridays will have music, lights, and contests. And on Saturday mornings, skaters can learn the FUNdamentals of ice skating from the Spokane Figure Skating Club.
Walk through a half mile of festive Manito Holiday Lights, Dec. 14 – 22, from 4:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Want to make a difference in your neighborhood, but don’t know where to begin? The Spokane Neighborhood Leadership Academy (SNLA) is accepting applications for its five-month program for new and emerging neighborhood council leaders. Attendees will learn skills and resources to increase engagement and effectively address their priorities. Visit Gonzaga.edu/SNLA for details and to register.
