Happy New Year!

January’s video features the Peaceful Valley neighborhood. Did you know Peaceful Valley is the smallest neighborhood in Spokane by both area and population? This whimsical neighborhood, located west of downtown, is one of Spokane’s oldest neighborhoods. The “working-class neighborhood” is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Most of the homes are small, simple “shot gun” homes, one or two stories tall and long. The platted lots were only 25 by 100-foot rectangles—which is thin by Spokane standards. The Pietsch House was the first home built in 1891, and it is still standing.

Well, if you didn’t know, now you know!

Here’s some news you can use!

ONS is moving to the City’s Communications Department. This move will improve communication between the neighborhoods and City.

Mayor Lisa Brown has signed a contract extension for Spokane C.O.P.S. to assist them as the City conducts its Request for Proposals for community policing.

It’s snow season! Remember to park on the odd side of the street during a snow event!

The Parks Department’s Tree Equity Spokane program launched in mid-December. This program focuses on helping underserved neighborhoods replace dead trees and plant trees in the public right-of-way to create more canopy coverage, and provides community forestry education.

The City of Spokane, City of Spokane Valley, Spokane County and Spokane Regional Health District have partnered together to launch a new dashboard to help the community better understand homelessness and programs that exist to provide support to those who are unhoused.
