This project enhances pedestrian safety by installing four Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) on busy arterials. It also includes sidewalk upgrades, bike lanes, and improved pedestrian facilities to encourage safer, more accessible travel.

Project Scope

The main activities within this project include:

  • Market St./Columbia Ave.: PHB with curb bump-outs, widened sidewalk near Hillyard Aquatic Center, coordination with STA and Parks.
  • Whistalks Way/Randolph Rd.: PHB connecting to a newly built asphalt pathway along Whistalks Way.
  • Nevada St./Cozza Dr.: PHB installation; sidewalk infill and bike lanes on Cozza from Nevada to Standard.
  • Regal St./Thurston Ave.: PHB on the intersection’s north leg.

Excluded Items:

  • No replacement of the existing 12-inch water main.
  • No new sewer mains included.

Funding

Total Project Cost: $1,929,000 (100% covered)

  • Source: Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP)
