Fish Lake Trail to Centennial Trail Connection

Project Description

The project will extend the connection linking the Fish Lake Trail to the Centennial Trail to offer a safer, more accessible trail network and an improved crossing for pedestrians and cyclists.

2023106 Phase 1 of this project extends the Fish Lake Trail from the Milton Street trailhead north to 5th Avenue, connecting toward the Centennial Trail. Work includes intersection improvements at Sunset Highway/Government Way, a new paved trail from Thorpe Road to the Fish Lake Trail, lighting, and warning systems in the BNSF tunnel.

2023107 Phase 2 of this project extends the Fish Lake Trail from Government Way to the Centennial Trail spur at Sandifur Bridge over Latah/Hangman Creek, a new paved trail and lighting.

Key Objectives

  • Trail Extension: Expand Fish Lake Trail northward for better connectivity to the Centennial Trail.
  • Intersection Improvements: Enhance safety at Sunset Highway/Government Way with protected-permitted left-turn phasing and crosswalk expansions.
  • New Trail Segment: Connect Thorpe Road to Fish Lake Trail with lighting and a cyclist warning system at the BNSF tunnel. May also include interpretive elements.

Construction Estimate: $4,931,720

Funding Sources: Federal TAP, CRP grants, local Arterial Street funds, impact fees

Environmental & Regulatory Compliance: Requires SEPA/NEPA compliance and coordination with BNSF for tunnel work. All cultural resource and environmental requirements will be addressed.
