Freya Transmission Main – Garland to Wellesley

This project replaces an aging 30-inch steel water transmission main along Freya Street with a new 30-inch ductile iron main. Work also includes reconstructing the roadway, improving sidewalks, and installing stormwater management features. The goal is to enhance water distribution reliability and support future development.

Key Objectives

  • Water Infrastructure Upgrade: Replace the deteriorating 30-inch steel main with a 30-inch ductile iron main.
  • Pedestrian Improvements: Repair, replace, and build sidewalks plus a 12-foot shared-use path on the east side of Freya.
  • Stormwater Management: Install swales and drywells to manage runoff effectively.

Project Scope

The main activities within this project include:

  • 30-inch Water Main Replacement: Along Freya Street.
  • Shared-Use Path: 12-foot-wide path on the east side.
  • Sidewalk Repair/Replacement: 5-foot sidewalk on the west side.
  • Stormwater Swales: On both sides of Freya Street.
  • Transit Coordination: Work with STA for improved stop access.

Excluded Items:

  • No replacement of the existing 12-inch water main.
  • No new sewer mains included.

Community Impact

Rehabilitates essential water infrastructure and enhances road safety. Includes improved sidewalks, a shared-use path, and better transit access. Stormwater features will reduce flooding and runoff issues.

Environmental & Regulatory Compliance

A Stormwater General Permit will be secured for ground disturbance activities.
