Last evening just before 6 p.m., the Spokane Fire Department along with Spokane County Fire District 8 responded to the 6700 block of S. Echo Ridge St. for a reported house fire.

Arriving crews advised of smoke coming through the front door of the two-story structure. The residents of the home were alerted to the fire and able to evacuate safely.

Simultaneously, firefighters searched the structure, extinguished the fire from three levels of the residence, battled the blaze on the exterior and evaluated the roof for structural integrity. Fire crews advise the fire started in the furnace room and traveled through the walls into the first and second floors and attic.

The fire caused damage to all levels of the home and smoke damage throughout. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Spokane Fire Department's Special Investigation Unit.

There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.
