Just after 3:00 AM on Feb 8th the Spokane Fire Department responded to a reported house fire on the 4200 block of East 28th Ave in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood.
?First-due Engine 14 arrived and reported light smoke showing from a split-level home. On investigation crews found fire in the kitchen wall behind the range with fire extension in to the attic. An aggressive interior attack, coordinated with ventilation of the roof resulted in rapid extinguishment with minimal damage. Crews conducted salvage operations to prevent further damage to the structure and contents. 4 adults, along with their pets were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
It is believed the fire resulted from a cooking-related fire on the stove earlier in the evening that the homeowners extinguished. They were then awoken by the smell of smoke, and observed a "flickering" in the area behind the kitchen range hood and called 911. There were no working smoke detectors in the residence.
