At 6:35 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2020, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to the Monroe Street Bridge for a water rescue.  The Spokane Police Department (SPD) had received a call for an adult male observed by two witnesses jumping into the river from the east side of the bridge.  SFD resources arrived within 5 minutes and were immediately deployed to both river banks of the river to look for the male.  The SFD Water Rescue Team, aided by resources from the Spokane Valley Fire Department, searched as much of the Spokane River Banks as possible despite the untoward weather and darkness.

An extensive search lasting over two hours and encompassing both banks of the river from the Monroe Street Bridge to the Sandifur Bridge near People’s Park was performed.  The male victim was not found.

This morning, the SFD Water Rescue Team is performing a more extensive search on the water via kayaks and a jet powered boat.  The SFD drone is deployed to search from the air. More information will be shared as it is available.
