Friday, May 1, 12:50 PM, companies from the Spokane Fire Department and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) responded to the area near North TJ Meenach Drive and West Downriver to a report of a natural cover fire near the Spokane River.  When companies arrived they found a fairly quick moving fire in brush and light timber on an extreme, south moving slope. Four engine companies with 14 firefighters successfully halted the fire's advance and were able to completely trail the fire in 30-minutes.

The nature of the fire is incendiary and cause remains undetermined. The public is reminded that time is of the essence with wildland fires. If you see smoke, or suspect a fire in a wildland or urban-interface area please call 911 immediately.
