It’s time to clean up those beautifully colored fall leaves! The City of Spokane will begin its regularly scheduled leaf pickup Monday, Nov. 16.

Next week, cars parked on streets scheduled for leaf removal will need to be moved off those streets during the hours of 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Beginning Sunday, Nov. 22, crews will be working seven days a week. Cars parked on the street will need to be moved during the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

In the event of snow, leaf pickup will stop and then continue when weather allows.

Being aware of the leaf pickup schedule is key to a successful pickup experience. Knowing when crews are in your area and removing vehicles from the streets ensures your neighborhood is cleared of as many leaves as possible.

Pickup times for various locations and neighborhoods can be found on SpokaneCity.org’s Leaf Pickup page. In addition, people can call the Leaf Hotline (509.625.7737) for information on the next day’s work areas.

The three different types of leaf pickup crews can operate during the following hours:

  • Loadal Crews: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Packer Crews: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Hand Pick Crews: After 10 p.m. to 9:30 a.m.(Day work may occur if crews are available.)

Streets Director Mark Serbousek is reminding citizens not to rake leaves onto the street.

“The City’s leaf pickup service is intended to remove only the leaves that naturally fall into the streets,” said Serbousek. “Raked yard leaves should be disposed of properly.”

Here are some options available for people to dispose of leaves that have fallen into their yards:

  • Leaves placed in the green yard waste carts will be collected until Dec. 18
  • Leaves can also be taken to the waste-to-energy facility or a solid waste transfer station
  • Compost leaves
