Approximately 10,000 cars visit downtown Spokane every day but there are only 3,000 meters throughout downtown. Because of the high demand for parking, the meters have a time limit for how long any one car can remain at a location, giving everyone the opportunity to find short term parking throughout the day.
Most of the downtown meters have a maximum time stay of two hours. If you are looking to stay more than two hours there are other parking options better suited for long term parking. These options can be found on the Downtown Spokane Partnership website and include various parking lots and parking garages. Plugging meters beyond the maximum stay is against the Spokane Municipal Code and subject to a fine.
Beginning Saturday, July 1, enforcement of overtime parking at meters will be enforced and could result in a $30.00 ticket. You must move your vehicle to another block face before you reach the maximum time stay. Most blocks have four block faces – north, south, east, and west. Pulling into the next meter stall does not meet the conditions of moving off the block face.
The City in collaboration with the Downtown Spokane Partnership has put together a plan of all downtown parking. Longer time stays for those who work in the downtown, those who wish to spend time in the downtown beyond two hours, and for other longer term needs have a variety of parking garage and lot options within walking distance of all businesses, retail, restaurant, and other downtown needs.
Parking dollars go towards improving the surrounding pedestrian environment from infrastructure and safety to beatification and sidewalk enhancements. Parking money is dedicated to working to improve the city experience through parking turnover as well as creating a more inviting environment for all.
