Monday, June 26, 2017 at 3:42 p.m.

Councilmember Karen Stratton and Landlord Association of Inland Northwest will partner to host a public education forum to provide education surrounding housing issues and the City’s Title 18 Human Rights Ordinance. The forum will be held Thursday at the Philanthropy Center, (1020 W Riverside Ave) from 2-5 p.m. Doors will open at 1:15 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

Panelists including, local nonprofits, attorneys and city representatives, will provide clarification and discuss implementation processes for upcoming housing protections aimed at preventing rental discrimination based on an applicant’s source of income. In conjunction with the City of Spokane, The Landlord Association of the Inland Northwest is presenting an informative and educational housing forum for local landlords, property managers, realtors, community advocates and attorneys.

“It is important that we continue to provide the most accurate and respectful information to all regarding Title 18 and to address housing issues in our community,” Stratton explains. “If we are committed to finding solutions for Spokane, we need everyone at the table to move forward. This forum is designed to do just that.”

Ed Cushman, president of the Landlord Association of the Inland Northwest agrees. “On March 27th, 2017 the City of Spokane passed a Non- Discrimination Title 18 Ordinance to include new requirements of all whom are engaged in the sale, rental or management of real property. I would highly encourage all stakeholders to attend this free education forum to fully understand the ordinance requirements for the successes of all.”

For over 40 years the Landlord Association of the Inland Northwest has addressed the educational needs and legislative concerns for small, medium and large landlords throughout the Inland Northwest. For those who cannot attend these forums and would like to participate, you are encouraged to contact Stratton directly (509.625.6712, or kstratton@spokanecity.org) to share your thoughts, ideas and suggestions.
