The City of Spokane will host a second Open House to present the preliminary concepts to accommodate stormwater and improve Downriver Park along the Spokane River between TJ Meenach Drive and the Downriver Disc Golf Course. The open house will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Downriver Golf Course Clubhouse, 3225 N. Columbia Circle.
The project provides an opportunity to improve these park lands, and the City encourages neighbors, disc golfers, boaters, hikers, mountain bikers and community members, to attend the open house. This is the next step in development a master plan for the park property and the stormwater project.
The open house will present the synthesis of the existing conditions analysis, suitability analysis, input from stakeholder interviews, and community input from the earlier meeting. This open house will provide the public with an opportunity to weigh in on the development master plan concepts, layout and design of the stormwater facilities and amenities proposed for Downriver Park. Ultimately, Downriver Park will seek to accommodate stormwater facilities and multiple types of public users while balancing shoreline conservation and management requirements.
The project is needed to manage stormwater from a large area on the City’s North Side called the Cochran Basin. This basin contributes about 300 million gallons of untreated stormwater to the Spokane River annually. Work would be part of the City’s efforts to improve the health of the Spokane River.
