Mayor directs flags to fly half-staff over the weekend in honor of fallen JBLM soldier.

Spokane Mayor David Condon has ordered flags at all city facilities to be lowered to half-staff to coincide with Gov. Jay Inslee’s directive that state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered on Friday, November 3 in remembrance of Chief Warrant Officer Jacob M. Sims.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of Chief Warrant Officer Jacob Sims,” said Mayor Condon. “CWO Sims was an 18-year veteran who served in Kosovo and multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sims was a true American hero and we encourage anyone with a flag outside their home or business to join us in this recognition to honor his memory.”
The Governor’s Office will allow agencies to lower flags at the close of business on Friday, November 3. Flags should remain at half-staff until the end of the day Saturday or first thing Monday morning, November 6.
Sims was assigned to 4th Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, a unit known as the “Night Stalkers” at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. He died of injuries sustained in a helicopter crash in Logar Province, Afghanistan on October 27, 2017.
Services for CWO Jacob Sims will be held Saturday at the Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, Washington.
