Spokane Police arrest Domestic Violence suspect for shooting her boyfriend in the leg.

On 11/18/17 before 7:30 p.m., Spokane Police and the Spokane Fire Department responded to a shooting in the 1600 block of E. Bismark Ave. A female called in to report her boyfriend had been shot in the leg. Upon the arrival of the Spokane Police Officers, first aid was rendered to the victim. The victim did initially advise a black male who attempted to steal from him had shot him. The victim was going in and out of consciousness, but he was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. The suspect, 25 year old Karla R. Licea, was the girlfriend of the victim. Licea initially advised she did not know how her boyfriend had been shot. The Spokane Police Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded to assist with the investigation. It was later determined Licea had shot her boyfriend in the leg. Licea was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st, and Assault 1st DV. The victim was in stable condition at the hospital.

This incident illustrates the severity of crimes of Domestic Violence and how they can escalate quickly putting lives in danger. The Spokane Police Department takes crimes of Domestic Violence very seriously, works to put the suspects in jail, and helps protect the victims. The Spokane Police Department Domestic Violence Unit will work to follow up with the victims to get them the services they need to recover and get through the court process.
