Suspect arrested after home invasion robbery in Logan neighborhood

On 09-08-18 just after 10 p.m., SPD received several calls from the area of 300 E Nora in Spokane’s Logan neighborhood. SPD contacted a female victim who indicated an unknown male had entered her residence, threatened her with a knife, and stolen her property.

An SPD K-9 unit was brought into the area, but was initially unable to locate the suspect. SPD patrol officers continued to investigate and follow-up on leads. Among the things officers noticed were signs that the victim’s residence had been forcibly entered.

Less than an hour after the initial call, officers found 51-year-old Kenneth Vansant hiding a few blocks away from the victim’s residence. Shortly thereafter some of the victim’s property was found in the immediate vicinity, and Vansant was identified as the suspect.

Vansant was booked into Spokane County Jail for Burglary 1st Degree, and Robbery 1st Degree, both are class “A” felony charges. Vansant is a convicted felon for a previous assault charge.

Citizens have the right to feel safe and secure in their homes. SPD will vigorously pursue those willing to victimize the public and shatter their sense of security. We are fortunate that the cooperation of witnesses and the victim, coupled by a diligent investigation, led to the suspect being taken into custody.
