Spokane City Council President Ben Stuckart and Council Members Kate Burke and Breean Beggs are holding four meetings to get public input on the best way to move forward with housing protections, specifically within rentals. These meetings will be held in December and January:

  • Thursday, Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Briefing Center (landowners/landlords only)
  • Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the Tribal Conference Room in the lobby (tenants only)
  • Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Briefing Center (everybody welcome)
  • Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. in the Tribal Conference Room (everybody welcome)

Based on community feedback, the meetings have been structured in a way that will allow productive discussion on policies that will work in the future. The first meeting is for landlords while the second meeting is for tenants. The last two meetings will be open to anyone in the public and bring both groups together to continue the discussion.

Council Member Beggs states that, “in previous work groups, both tenants and landlords have clearly described the problems that need to be addressed. I am looking forward to hearing specific proposed solutions from all parties.” Council Member Burke knows, “there is a direct correlation to homelessness and unstable living conditions. In order to make sure our community has adequate housing, we need to bring the stakeholders in and have a discussion about the best steps moving forward.”

Please come to City Hall to participate in these important discussions.
