SPD Arrests Convicted Felon After Standoff

Spokane Police arrest a convicted felon on Felony Harassment charge after a short standoff on N Adams Street.

April 12th, 2019, just after 6:15 p.m., Spokane Police responded to the 1500 block of N Adams St., for the report of a person threatening to shoot people at his residence. The suspect, 35 year old Matthew R. Jones, had prior felony convictions. Upon their arrival at the residence Officers attempted to contact Matthew, however he retreated inside the residence. Officers received information that Matthew was possibly armed inside the residence. Investigating Officers learned that Matthew had also threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend. Due to Matthew being inside the residence, possibly with a weapon, resources from the SWAT team and Hostage Negotiators were used. After a short standoff, Matthew was taken into custody without incident. Matthew was arrested for Felony Harassment DV. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are possible.

This is a great example of the Spokane Police Department using multiple resources from our SWAT team and Hostage Negotiators to have a peaceful ending to a very dangerous situation. The Spokane Police Department takes these incidents very seriously and will use all available resources to keep our community safe.
