The City of Spokane, the University District Development Association, and the academic institutions in the District will host a Grand Opening Celebration for the University District Gateway Bridge on Tuesday, May 7, at the South Landing of the Bridge near the intersection of Sprague and Sherman.

A Community Expo with information booths, food trucks and music will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by an opening ceremony and ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. The Expo will include information booths by the academic institutions, local government, non-profit organizations, and businesses. The ceremony will include remarks by a number of officials who were instrumental in the bridge project. The event invitation is attached.

The University District Gateway Bridge is a new pedestrian and bicycle facility that crosses over the railroad viaduct and connects the north and south parts of the University District. The bridge was designed to be an iconic landmark for the City.

The bridge opened in late December 2018, following more than a year and a half of construction by Garco Construction and landscaping by SPVV Landscape Architects. The bridge was designed by LMN Architects and is 450 feet long and the main arch is 120 feet tall.
