City of Spokane Wastewater Management crews are working to clear flooded streets and standing water around the City this evening, particularly at intersections and at the bottom of hills. This work is going to take some time because many locations are experiencing some street flooding.

In residential areas, residents are asked to clear storm drains of leaves, pine needles and other debris, as long as it is safe to do so, to keep the water flowing.

Flooded streets can be reported to the City by calling 3-1-1 and making the selection to report a water emergency. Motorists should slow down around standing water and should try to avoid the standing water when possible.

Here’s a couple of quick tips:

  • Don’t attempt to drive over flooded roads. Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars causing loss of control and possible stalling. A foot of water will float many vehicles.
  • Observe road closure signs. Emergency crews have closed some locations because of deep water. Please obey that signage.
  • Don’t allow children or pets to play in the standing water.
