Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward has ordered flags at all City facilities be lowered to half-staff to coincide with Governor Jay Inslee’s directive that state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered on Wednesday, Feb. 22, in remembrance of Washington State Department of Corrections Correctional Officer Jay Miller.

“Spokane sends its deepest sympathies and condolences to Officer Miller’s family, friends, and colleagues,” Woodward said. “I encourage anyone with a flag outside of their home or business to join us in this recognition to honor his memory.”

Officer Miller died in the line of duty on Saturday, Feb. 11. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, February 22, 1 p.m., at The Church for All Nations in Tacoma.
