This month, the Spokane City Council will likely appoint members of the community to pro and con committees for two ballot measures.

The first measure submits to the voters an increase in the regular property tax levy for Citywide Park Improvements and Safety for a twenty-year period beginning in 2025.

The second measure submits to the voters a permanent increase in the regular property tax levy beginning in 2025 to fund existing obligations and new enhancements to community safety across Spokane.

Pro and con committees are required by state law whenever the city places a tax measure on the ballot. For these two measures, the pro and con committees will prepare arguments in favor of, and in opposition to, the ballot measures as well as rebuttal statements, consistent with SMC 01.07.010 and the Spokane County’s Administrative Rules.

Any community member interested in serving on pro or con committees for either ballot measure may reach out to Council Office Director Giacobbe Byrd (gbyrd@spokanecity.org) by 5:00 p.m. on April 18, 2024.
